Barbie is using Black History Month as an opportunity to celebrate and elevate Black female fashion designers, highlighting their influence on the industry while paving the way for future generations. In partnership with the Black in Fashion Council (BIFC), Barbie is recognizing the creative contributions of Black designers and working to bridge the gap in an industry where Black professionals make up only 7.3 percent of the workforce.
This year, Barbie has teamed up with BIFC to spotlight three emerging Black designers, offering them a platform to showcase their work and inspire young girls who dream of entering the fashion world. By collaborating with these designers, Barbie is reinforcing its commitment to representation and ensuring that Black creatives have the visibility they deserve.
Beyond celebrating established talent, Barbie is also investing in the future. The brand is working to provide young Black girls with access to mentorship, resources, and career opportunities in fashion. Representation in dolls and storytelling has always been a cornerstone of Barbie’s mission, and this initiative extends that legacy by fostering real-world change.
Fashion has long been a space where Black culture thrives, influencing trends and shaping the industry in profound ways. However, systemic barriers have made it difficult for Black designers to gain recognition and opportunities on a larger scale. Barbie’s collaboration with BIFC is a step toward dismantling those barriers, giving emerging talent a platform to shine while inspiring the next generation to dream without limits.
