Q&A with Lisa K. Satchell

W4TC: What inspired you to write LIVING SINGLE, and how has your own journey of faith and singleness shaped the devotionals in the book?

Lisa K.: I was inspired to write Living Single because I felt like it was needed for myself and women like me. Being a single woman can feel like a balancing act when it comes to managing our emotions, faith, and expectations. We want to be married, but we don’t want to be too desperate about it. We want to believe that God is sending us our husband, but time feels like it’s ticking. We want the perfect man of our dreams, but we also know that love comes with its own challenges. All those things were (and are) present in my own journey so I began to seek God for His thoughts on all I was feeling. It helped me process a lot of things, so I wrote the book to help other people process as well.

W4TC: In your book, you focus on preparing for a Godly relationship. What do you believe is the most important step in preparing yourself for the husband God has for you?

Lisa K.: I think the most important step in preparing for the husband God has for us is to focus on becoming who God has called us to be. We have to trust that when the time is right, God will bring the man He has for us when we’re ready. For some of us, that may mean learning to be a better friend so we’ll be good at stewarding relationships. For others of us, it may mean becoming more comfortable taking care of our living space so we’ll know how to make a house a home. Whatever it looks like for us, there’s always an opportunity to grow and move closer to what God has for us.

W4TC: How do you encourage women to balance their desire for a partner with trusting God’s timing for their life?

Lisa K.: I encourage women to go after everything God is calling them to with full force and obedience! I like to think of Matthew 6:33 when it comes to this. It’s a good reminder that when we seek God and stay in line with Him, He’ll give us everything else He has for us.

W4TC: What are some traits or signs you believe women should look for in a godly husband?

Lisa K.: The best place to look to find the keys for how to spot a man of God is the Bible. A few of the Scriptures I look to are in regards to the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and the instructions given to husbands (Ephesians 5:25-33). To sum it up, some of the things that he should have are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. He should also love himself and be willing to sacrifice for his wife.

W4TC: On your podcast, Purpose Looks Good, you emphasize walking in purpose. What advice do you have for women who feel uncertain about what their purpose is?

Lisa K.: If you’re uncertain about your purpose, I would suggest going in the direction of things that make you feel fulfilled. If you love volunteering with kids, lean into that and find more ways to do it. If you enjoy encouraging others through social media, keep doing that and challenge yourself to be consistent about it. Whatever it looks like for you, it’s important to keep moving in some directions so that you can be directed or redirected in a direction that leads to your purpose.

W4TC: Faith and personal development are at the heart of your content. How do you maintain your own growth in these areas while guiding others?

Lisa K.: I realize that the only way I can help others grow is by growing for myself. I pursue my own growth by praying, reading the Bible, tapping in with self help books, and listening to sermons and podcasts that I find challenging or convicting. I also love hanging out with friends and going to try new experiences in order to challenge my perspective and expose me to things I may not have thought of.

W4TC: Can you share a moment in your life when you leaned heavily on faith to navigate a challenge, and how that experience deepened your connection to your purpose?

Lisa K.: The first time I really leaned heavy on my faith was when I was 18 years old. I had finished my first semester in college studying Theatre and I felt like something was off. I wasn’t enjoying my classes, though Theatre had been what I loved from the age of 4. I felt incredibly lost, so I prayed and turned to God because I felt like I had no clue what to do. I heard His voice clearly for the first time. He told me to transfer school and pursue a degree in Film and TV.

Getting that degree made me well verse in video production, storytelling, and understanding the entertainment industry. Those are all skills I utilize today as I continue to pursue purpose in my life. Not only that, but it taught me that I can call on God in every situation and He’ll be there to help guide me.

W4TC: What message do you hope women take away after listening to your podcasts or reading your book?

Lisa K.: I really want women to know that they’re not alone. Navigating life, love, and faith all come with their own sets of challenges. If someone can listen to my podcasts, read the book I wrote, or see a piece of content I post and feel seen, I feel like my mission has been accomplished.

W4TC: Your second show, Repost, is a bit more laid-back. How important do you think it is for women to have spaces where they can be both serious and lighthearted?

Lisa K.: Lightening up and having fun is so important! Life is hard, so having spaces where we can laugh and joke gives us space to breathe and take a break. I’m so thankful for my Repost Podcast co-host because our show gives us space to crack jokes but also have some real conversations.

W4TC: What’s next for you? Are there any future projects or messages you’re excited to share with your audience?

Lisa K.: I’m working on another book! I’ve been studying Proverbs 31 and what it really means to be a Proverbs 31 woman. It’s something I’ve been curious about and I’m excited to share what God has shared with me. The book should be out early 2025!
